Japanese State Army

"The Constitution died the day the dead began to walk. Now, only the State remains. For the sake of the living, we must become the monsters we fight."
— General Yoshihide Yoshida, Address to the Nation, June 2025

The Japanese State Army (JSA) is the primary successor state to the government of Japan following the Necronyl Collapse of 2025. Formed through the invocation of the National Emergency and State Defense Act, the JSA represents the consolidation of the former Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) into a unified, authoritarian military apparatus.

Operating out of the fortified Ichigaya Citadel, the JSA is currently engaged in a multi-front war against the "Necrosis" hordes, anarchist insurgencies in Osaka, and the collapse of global civilization. While nominally defending the Japanese people, the JSA is characterized by its draconian Sakura Protocol, which authorizes the summary execution of infected citizens and the suspension of all human rights within the Quarantine Zones.

The distribution of the Russian pharmaceutical Necronyl in early 2025 was heralded as a medical miracle. By May, the miracle had rotted. The resulting pandemic did not just kill; it reanimated. As the "Necrosis" spread through bites and fluid contact, the Japanese civilian government found itself paralyzed by bureaucracy and Article 9 of the Constitution.

With the police overwhelmed and the healthcare system shattered, the National Diet held its final emergency session. Under pressure from the military brass, they passed the National Emergency Act, effectively dissolving the civilian cabinet's power and transferring supreme authority to the General Staff. The JSDF was formally disbanded and immediately reconstituted as the Japanese State Army, freed from the legal shackles of "Self-Defense."

The Sakura Protocol

The defining doctrine of the JSA is the Sakura Protocol (桜の議定書), a set of engagement rules that redefines the legal status of Japanese citizens. In the eyes of the JSA, the conflict is not a police action, but a biological war of annihilation.
